Kansas City, KS -General Motors today pledged $250,000 to the newly established Community Foundation of Wyandotte County.
The Foundation was introduced at a "power of partnership" community reception at the Reardon Civic Center in Kansas City, Kansas where GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant Manager Paul Marr presented a check to Foundation Board Chair Susan Rohrer.
"When given the opportunity to get involved in this partnership, we didn't hesitate. The men and women of Fairfax Assembly give a lot of themselves in a variety of community programs and we're honored to supplement those efforts by providing funding to the Community Foundation," Marr said.
General Motors Group Vice President of Manufacturing and Labor Relations, Gary Cowger said, "GM is committed to enhancing the quality of life in the communities where our employees live and work. As a native of Kansas City, Kansas, I'm especially proud that GM is making such a significant contribution to Wyandotte County. I'm excited about the potential impact this new organization will make on the lives of people in the community."
GM has operated in Kansas City, Kan., for more than 56 years and has been involved in the Greater Kansas region since 1929. GM Fairfax Assembly currently employs 3,200 people who live and work in the surrounding area.
Funding for the donation was provided through the GM Foundation. The Foundation, established in 1976 and funded entirely by GM, provides the focal point for administering the corporation's philanthropic programs. In 2000, the combined worldwide contributions of GM and the GM Foundation were over $78 million.
