CAR FACTS: Grand-Am Cars:
SportsRacing Prototypes: Exoctic,
open-cockpit machines featuring chassis from Cadillac, Ferrari, Riley &
Scott and Kudzu. Powered by Chevrolet, Cadillac, Ferrari, Ford,
Judd and Mazda engines. The cars are
similar to the Can-Am machines that were prevalent at Mid-Ohio from 1970 to
1982. Divided into two divisions: SportsRacing Prototypes and SportRacing
Prototype II. SportsRacing Prototypes reach levels in the 650 horsepower
range and turbocharging is permitted. SportRacing Prototype II cars are
powered by normally aspirated, six-cylinder engines.
GT: Divided into GTS and GT machines. The
GTS division features Chevrolet Corvettes, Dodge Vipers and Turbo Porsches
powered by larger displacement engines capable of approximately 650
horsepower. The GT division showcases BMW M3s, Ferraris, normally aspirated
Porsches and Porsche GT3Rs. These cars produce 450 horsepower.
American GT: Comprised of American muscle
cars such as Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs. These cars are
purpose-built on tube-frame chassis similar to NASCAR Winston Cup Series
machines and are powered by V8 engines producing upward of 600 horsepower.
American City Racing League Cars:
All cars are open-cockpit, two-seat cars
powered by Ford Cosworth four-cylinder engines. Chassis are typically an
aluminum honeycomb monocoque. Cars are similar to Sports 2000 machines.
Manufacturers include Carbir, Swift, Lola, Doran, Mallock, Van Diemen and
Shrike.
Grand-Am Cup Cars:
All machines are two-seat street stock
sportscars competing in four different categories (fastest to slowest):
Super Grand Sport, Grand Sport, Sport-Touring and Compact. Super Grand
Sports includes cars such as Dodge Vipers and Porsche 911s. Grand Sports
includes cars like Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustang Cobras.
Sports-Touring features machines like Honda Preludes and BMW Z3s. Compact
has cars such as Honda Civic Si's and Mazda Miatas.
SCCA Pro Spec Racer Cars:
All cars are single-seat, open-cockpit,
rear-engine vehicles built by SCCA Enterprises. All cars are identical with
sealed 1.9-liter Ford engines built by Roush Racing.
U.S. F2000 Cars:
Machines are single-seat, open-cockpit,
open-wheel cars cosmetically reminiscent of those found in CART's top
developmental series. The cars are powered by 2000cc Ford engines developing
150 horsepower at 6200 RPM and propelling the cars in excess of 150 miles
per hour.
