Tenaya Lodge At Yosemite's Autumn Auto Trek

YOSEMITE, Calif.--May 31, 2001--Tenaya Lodge At Yosemite--The highest motor vehicle pass in California at 9,945 feet, Tioga Road winds through Yosemite's high country to reveal magnificent mountain vistas, backcountry hiking trails, impossibly blue lakes and soaring, glacier-carved granite monoliths -- all steps from the roadway.
Tioga Pass is Hidden Yosemite at its most sublime, where an auto tour can encompass such wonders as Tuolumne Meadows (the largest subalpine meadow in the Sierra Nevada), sparkling Tenaya Lake (one of the largest and certainly most beautiful lakes in the Sierra), and myriad roadside vista points offering inspiring panoramas of what Ansel Adams christened the "Range of Light."
The autumn months may be the best time to fully savor Tioga Road, with the colors of fall foliage bursting around every turn and long stretches of highway where the only one out there is you. Tenaya Lodge further enhances the experience with its Autumn by Auto package.
The two-night Autumn by Auto package is available from September 4 until winter-like conditions begin (usually mid-November) for $388. Guests on this package of discovery will receive a Yosemite Park pass, map, box lunches for two (including insider tips on where to enjoy them), and a Serenity Basket filled with herbal teas, aromatherapy candle, bath oil, body lotion and more upon arrival.
It's the perfect opportunity to turn off the cell phone and tune it to the steel-belted mantra of tire and road. Old Yosemite hands offer these additional Tioga Pass driving tips:

-- Lower all windows to allow interior rush of pine-scented air
-- Consider the car as a vehicle for contemplation
-- Take lunch at Tenaya Lake, nap on its white-sand beach, remove shoes (and socks and other articles of attire) and wade in
-- Make frequent use of vista spot turnouts
-- Watch out for wildlife
-- Start your return before nightfall -- you'll want to see as much as you can -- and return to the lodge for a little Tenaya Spa indulgence and a fabulous dinner

Tenaya Lodge is located on California Highway 41, 55 miles north of Fresno Yosemite International Airport, 3 1/2 hours from San Francisco Bay Area and 4 1/2 hours from the greater Los Angeles area.
