criterion. The Computerworld "A Search for New Heroes" Honors Program has
named Delphi Packard Electric Systems Cortland Injection Molding
Center a finalist in the upcoming 2001 Computerworld Honors 21st Century

The Delphi facility was nominated in the program's manufacturing category
by William H. Gates, chairman of the Microsoft Corporation. In April,
Delphi's Cortland facility was named an Honors Laureate for its extensive,
integrated information technology system. This system has automated the
precision injection molding facility, enabling leaner and more agile operation
and worldwide access in real time, giving operators, managers, suppliers and
customers complete up-to-the-minute information regarding the plant's
manufacturing input and output.
"Each year, the Computerworld Honors Program identifies and honors men and
women from around the world whose visionary use of Information Technology
produces and promotes positive social, economic and educational change," said
Alan Guibord, president, Computerworld. "These innovators are true
revolutionaries in their industry and have been recognized by the leading
chairmen of the industry as such."
This year, 310 individuals and companies were added to the class of
laureates in the 2001 Collection.
"We are very pleased to be named as a finalist in the Computerworld Honors
Program, which recognizes the most innovative applications of technology,"
said James Spencer, president, Delphi Packard Electric Systems. "Our leading-
edge information technology system is truly improving the flexibility of our
manufacturing processes and the quality of our products. This award-winning
system at the Cortland Injection Molding Center is helping to secure our
future as a leading supplier in the connections systems marketplace."
Fifty-three of the Honors Laureates were named as finalists by the
Computerworld Honors Program. Finalists were selected by a panel of
distinguished judges on the basis of: Benefit to society; Importance of
Information Technology; Originality; Success; and Difficulty.
"We are grateful to William Gates, the chairman of Microsoft Corp., who
nominated Delphi as one of the best examples of how information technology is
being used to benefit society in manufacturing," said Daniel Morrow, executive
director, Computerworld.
Established in 1988, the Computerworld Honors Program brings together the
chairmen and chief executive officers of the 100 foremost information
technology companies in the world to help the world's leading universities,
libraries and research institutions document a revolution in progress -- the
global information technology revolution.
