Ryder Launches Used Truck Sales Initiative Targeting Fleet Operators and Export Sales; ''Road Ready'' Vehicles to be Sold With Complete Maintenance Records and Warranties

MIAMI--May 30, 2001--Ryder System, Inc. , a global leader in supply chain and transportation management solutions and North America's largest seller of used trucks, has launched a used truck sales program for truck fleet operators and international export sales market segments.
"Ryder's internal used truck transaction data shows that a growing percentage of our used truck volume is being purchased by fleet operators," said Tracy A. Leinbach, Ryder's Executive Vice President of Fleet Management Solutions. "These operators, whether here in the U.S. or overseas, recognize that Ryder's `Road Ready' used vehicles are a cost-effective and dependable way to supplement their fleets."
The used fleet and export sales initiative will be led by Todd Hays, Ryder's Senior Manager of International/Fleet Vehicle Sales. Hays, who has more than a decade of experience in asset management, sales and marketing, was formerly with El Camino Resources de America Latina, Inc., where he served as Director of Asset Management for the Latin America region. Prior to that, Hays served in a series of increasingly responsible positions, including director of sales and general manager of DaimlerChrysler's Freightliner company-owned used vehicle sales outlet in South Florida. His experience includes sales to national fleet accounts, Internet-based sales and exports involving the Freightliner, Hino, Isuzu, Kenworth, Mitsubishi, Navistar and Scania commercial truck product lines.
Ryder's "Road Ready" used vehicles are single-owner trucks that are equipped with quality components and parts configurations that have been road-tested and performance-monitored within Ryder's fleet of more than 175,000 vehicles. The specified components include long-life silicone coolant hoses, slack adjusters, filter gauges, synthetic lubricants, jump start posts, heavy-duty clutches and batteries and task-specific transmission, suspension and engine packages. These vehicles have been continually serviced and maintained to rigorous standards by trained Ryder technicians located throughout North America. The "Road Ready" designation means that the vehicle being purchased includes complete maintenance records and meets or exceeds a list of 59 standards such as tire and brake life, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) engine tolerances, structural, cab and interior integrity and, where applicable, valid documentation of annual federal inspection. In the United States, "Road Ready" vehicle purchases include an extendable, 10,000 mile/30-day, no-deductible powertrain warranty that is serviced through more than 1,100 Ryder service locations.
Ryder's wide range of more than 4,500 used trucks, tractors and trailers can be viewed on the Internet, with actual photos and vehicle specifications in English and Spanish, by visiting www.usedtrucks.ryder.com. This site includes a continually updated inventory that is priced and is current through the previous day's sales. Customers may also call the "Road Ready" Used Vehicle Sales team using the toll-free number 1/800/USED-TRKS (1/800/873-3875) or by visiting one of more than 45 Ryder Used Truck Centers located throughout the United States.
