Chrysler Group Invites Phoenix Area Poets to
Compete For $1,600 During National Hispanic Journalist
Convention
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 30 Chrysler Group will award
$1,600 in cash prizes to aspiring poets and writers during the annual "Spirit
in the Words" poetry contest June 20, 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona.
As part of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists' annual
conference, the poetry competition will take place at the Hyatt Regency
Phoenix at Civic Plaza. An independent panel of judges will select first,
second and third place winners during the event. First place prize is $1,000,
second prize is $500 and third prize is $100.
"The 'Spirit in the Words' poetry program celebrates the foundations of
communication -- the spoken word and the written word," said George Murphy,
Senior Vice President of Global Brand Marketing for the Chrysler Group. "It
also brings together various cultures, which exemplifies what the National
Association of Hispanic Journalists encourage through their continuous
efforts."
According to the National Endowment of the Arts, 24 million people in the
U.S. write creatively for their own fulfillment. Of those, 2.3 million
reported having their published their work.
The "Spirit in the Words" poetry program began in Detroit, Michigan in
1994. At that time, 47 journalists and poets attended the event. Today, the
program reaches hundreds of journalists and aspiring poets throughout the U.S.
The contest is open to Phoenix area poets and writers. Interested persons

participate in the contest on June 20, 2001.
