SDRC TeamCenter(TM) enables global manufacturers to reduce
time-to-market and costs, while increasing productivity
SDRC today announced at its Collaborative Product Management Symposium in Orlando, Florida, SDRC TeamCenter(TM), the industry's first suite of collaborative product management solutions. TeamCenter is uniquely product-centric, enabling virtual enterprises -- comprised of dispersed knowledge users and diverse application systems -- to collaborate on the planning, development, and support of products.
TeamCenter is built on an open, Internet-standards based, web-native environment, and it is the only solution that unites all of the critical technologies essential for collaboratively managing all aspects of the products, including: requirements, designs, configurations, documents, and related business information. The integration of these technology components enables TeamCenter to deliver solution value never before possible, enabling global manufacturers to bring new products to market faster, with better quality and less cost.
"TeamCenter is a revolutionary step forward for SDRC," said Bill Weyand, chairman and CEO, SDRC. "Confirming our own research on this new product with customers, prospects, and analysts, we believe that TeamCenter provides manufacturers exactly what is needed to stay competitively viable in today's product development environment -- a new, web-native collaboration environment to bind together disparate systems into one integrated source of data and knowledge that is aligned with product lifecycle business processes. TeamCenter will enable these global manufacturers to turn their product development organizations into competitive engines for business growth."
Based on Sun Microsystem's Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), the recognized standard for today's Internet-based e-business framework, TeamCenter fully embraces the web for managing the product lifecycle and is the first CAD-neutral collaborative product management solution in the industry. TeamCenter is a breakthrough in collaborative product management, delivering a new era of business value.
"Aberdeen finds that SDRC's new corporate strategy and the introduction of their TeamCenter solution clearly positions them in the CPC market space," said Jack Maynard, research director, Aberdeen Group. "Their new collaborative development architecture has the potential to deliver on the promise of what PDM was meant to be and to deliver this value beyond the engineering community to all constituents involved in the product lifecycle."
TeamCenter's Solution Suite:
TeamCenter is a component-based system. According to Ed Miller, president of CIMdata, Inc., "The components approach allows for unparalleled openness by allowing customers to not only use SDRC's components, but also their own components, components from other products, and components developed by third parties."
At the cornerstone of TeamCenter is the Collaboration Foundation, providing the web infrastructure that controls and manages product information throughout the virtual enterprise. This foundation allows globally dispersed teams to author, share, and access product information as it proceeds across the product lifecycle. TeamCenter leverages the Collaboration Foundation to offer functional solutions that address company-specific lifecycle requirements, including:
-- TeamCenter Project Collaboration -- creates a real-time
workspace to create, share, and manage project information.
Reduces product development costs by synchronizing the tasks
and schedules of project teams through the value chain, while
optimizing resource allocation through skill mix and
availability.
-- TeamCenter Requirements Collaboration -- enables entitled
participants, customers and suppliers, to create, capture,
share, and manage product requirements. Reduces warranty costs
while increasing product quality through its unique ability to
build customer and regulatory requirements compliance early
into the product development process.
-- TeamCenter Product Collaboration -- enables he entire value
chain to capture dispersed product information, transform it
into product knowledge and share and manage this knowledge on
an extended enterprise basis. Dramatically reduces development
cycles times and costs through managing product information
and development processes in the world's only web-native
collaborative product management environment.
-- TeamCenter Design Collaboration -- provides breakthrough
technology that synchronizes today's leading-edge
visualization and mockup capabilities with product structure
browsing, enabling global teams to create, share, and manage
virtual prototypes and assembles from multiple geometry
sources throughout the value chain in a secure, CAD-neutral
collaborative environment. Design Collaboration speeds
products to market while reducing costs and cycle times by
enabling users to utilize data from any of the industry's
leading CAD systems
-- TeamCenter Enterprise Collaboration -- enables users to draw
product information from dissimilar application systems and
integrate it into seamless views that can be presented to
knowledge users and e-business applications. SDRC provides
adapters to connect TeamCenter with product-related
applications systems, including product data management (PDM),
enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, component and
supplier management (CSM) systems, maintenance repair and
overhaul (MRO) systems, mainframe applications and legacy
databases. Reduces engineering change orders, and accelerates
time-to-market by unlocking essential product information from
core business systems throughout the value chain.
"TeamCenter transcends the technology infrastructure typically characterized as CPC and provides a single, web-native, open environment to bring together best-in-class systems and organizations of the virtual supply chain to collaboratively develop, deliver and support the right products to market faster," said Glenn Wienkoop, president and COO, SDRC. "TeamCenter provides a new paradigm for secure global access to information -- a technology infrastructure that is scalable from an individual to an enterprise. The components-based architecture allows for multiple vendors and contributors to provide best in class applications. SDRC's approach was to design a system where every feature is designed for the fastest available ROI, from industry specific solutions to a zero training user interface."
TeamCenter Collaboration Foundation, TeamCenter Project Collaboration, TeamCenter Product Collaboration, and TeamCenter Enterprise Collaboration will be available in June, 2001. TeamCenter Requirements Collaboration and TeamCenter Design Collaboration will be available in Q4, 2001, along with enhancements to the initial release.
