American Axle & Manufacturing Announces New Driveline System Business

DETROIT, May 30 American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings,
Inc. (AAM), which is traded as AXL on the NYSE, today announced that it will
supply the driveline system for a rear-wheel-drive niche vehicle produced by a
major Detroit-based OEM.

This niche vehicle is expected to debut in late 2002 and will feature
AAM's PowerLite(TM) aluminum rear axle. The driveline system features
extended-life seals and PowerDense(TM) gear sets.

"This is an exciting project for us," says Richard E. Dauch, Co-Founder,
Chairman & CEO. "The experience we have gained through decades of industry-
leading driveline development and manufacturing, coupled with the state-of-
the-art engineering and validation capabilities available at our Technical
Center in Rochester Hills, were critical in the customer's decision to
incorporate our driveline system into this niche vehicle."
