FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WOODSIDE AND TEAM WALKER MOTORSPORTS
TEST SUPERSPEEDWAY TALENT IN INAUGURAL KANSAS "100"
May 29, 2001 (North Hollywood, Calif.) - Sean Woodside, driver of the #45
Team Walker/Ron's Rear Ends/NAPA Chevrolet in the NASCAR Winston West
Series, and the team head to Kansas Speedway (Kansas City, KS) for the
inaugural Kansas "100" this Saturday with a sense of how far they have come
this season.
All on the team are veterans in NASCAR racing. However, as a relatively new
team that is competing in its first full Winston West season, it is
fine-tuning its short-track, superspeedway and road course programs.
"Our performance at Mazda Raceway (at Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif.) is
proof to us that we have our road course program together, and we have
third-place finishes on two different short-tracks this season," Woodside
commented. "We're looking forward to getting to Kansas City and showing that
we also have something for the superspeedways."
This will be the first NASCAR event held on the 1.5-mile oval.
Woodside tested his car with its new 2001 Monte Carlo body at Las Vegas
Motor Speedway just prior to the Winston West's annual visit to California
Speedway (Fontana, Calif.) in late April. The test session was great, but
the team had to settle for a 15th place finish in Fontana as it settled into
the updated body style.
Since that event, the team has notched consecutive third place finishes at
Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway and Laguna Seca. The team easily won the Bud
Pole Award at Laguna Seca, and led 22 of 75 laps.
"It's exciting to be involved in an inaugural event like this one,"
continued Woodside. "Since this is a new track for all the teams, the
playing field will be fairly even. We will hope for the best and work toward
that, but it should at least be interesting."
"Sean has a great deal of confidence in his team, and he appreciates the
hard work and dedication they have shown in preparing and transporting the
car for the Kansas race," said team owner Donna Walker. "We're looking
forward to a great weekend and, hopefully, another great performance."
The Kansas "100" will be televised tape delayed on Fox Sports Net, date and
time to be announced.
