Matt Kenseth's thoughts on racing at Dover Downs:
Why is Dover one of your favorite tracks?
"Dover is the first track I ever ran a Winston Cup car on. I started 16th and finished 6th. It was pretty incredible. I was substituting for Bill Elliott and we were in this tie-dyed car. It was really cool. I have shared some pretty serious success at Dover since then. I've also had some pretty good wrecks there in the Busch Series."
Do you feel like you will be a contender for a victory at Dover?
"You always want to be a contender for a win. We had a great car last week in Charlotte and just had a problem with a tire that set us back a lap. Other than that the car was pretty good. I think our program is going in the right direction and we will find our way to victory lane soon."
What is so tough about Dover?
"It's a high banked race track. They call it the 'Monster Mile' for a reason. The concrete surface also plays a big part in how the racing goes. I really like racing there, its always real exciting for the drivers and the fans."
Crew Chief Robbie Reiser's thoughts on Dover:
"Last year we finished 2nd in this race at Dover. We could have won the thing but Tony (Stewart) had a real good car. We are prepared for this race, and with it being so close to DEWALT’s headquarters (Baltimore) we hope for a good showing. Races at Dover are usually filled with cautions for wrecks, but we are also ready for long green flag runs. Our pit stops have been a huge factor this year. Like I always tell the team 'no mistake racing' – that's what it's all about."
Notes of Interest:
Kenseth's first ever Winston Cup start was at Dover in 1998 when he substituted for Bill Elliott and finished 6th.
Matt Kenseth has completed every lap run at Dover Downs in the Winston Cup Series with the exception of one.
Kenseth will join NASCAR President Mike Helton as a guest at the NASCAR Power Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Baltimore, MD on May 30th.
Kenseth will sign autographs at Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse in Dover, DE on Thursday, May 31st from 6-8pm.
