Oshkosh Truck Expands Use of TAK-4 Independent Suspension Technology
OSHKOSH, Wis.--May 29, 2001--System improves braking, handling, ride and overall vehicle durability
Oshkosh Truck Corporation has expanded application of its patented TAK-4(TM) independent suspension system within the fire and emergency market. Due to customer demand since the introduction of the TAK-4 system in March, Oshkosh has added its Pierce brand Enforcer chassis to the list of custom fire chassis that are available with the new technology. TAK-4 is also available on Pierce Lance(R) and Dash(R) custom chassis.
No other fire truck manufacturer has its own independent front suspension system. TAK-4 greatly improves braking and handling performance, ride comfort, and extends the useful life of fire apparatus. It improves braking performance by 23 percent and ride quality by 340 percent. In addition, TAK-4 provides a full 10 inches of vertical wheel travel, which improves the ride over railroad tracks, speed bumps, water run-off dips and potholes.

Oshkosh adapted the technology that has been in use for years in severe-duty applications, such as off-road military and airport rescue and fire fighting vehicles, to the fire service. A similar system is used on Oshkosh's MTVR and HEMTT models, tactical military trucks designed for tough off-road conditions that have withstood rigorous testing.
