Paladin Howitzer Technical Support Contract Awarded to TRW by U.S. Army

CARSON, Calif.--May 29, 2001--Following the successful integration last December of its battlefield digitization system into the U.S. Army's Paladin howitzer, TRW Inc. has received a five-year delivery order contract, with a potential value up to $50 million, to provide electronic systems technical services for the howitzer and its ammunition vehicle.
Technical services will include engineering trade studies, design, testing, production, and fielding of electronic upgrades for approximately 1,900 Paladin howitzers and ammunition vehicles.
"Paladin is an exciting program as it increases TRW's ability to support the U.S. Army as a systems integrator of electronic systems on the digitized battlefield," said George Petteys, vice president and deputy general manager, TRW Tactical Systems.
Work on this contract, awarded May 17 by U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command, will be performed at TRW's facility in Carson, Calif. As prime, TRW will be responsible for system engineering and integration of hardware and software electronic systems in the M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzer and the M992 field artillery ammunition supply vehicle.
TRW's primary teammate is San Jose, Calif.-based United Defense Limited Partnership, Ground Systems Division, manufacturer of the vehicles. UDLP will be responsible for vehicle integration and fielding as well as providing system engineering support.
TRW Inc., headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, provides advanced technology products and services to the automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, and information technology markets worldwide. TRW, which is celebrating its 100th year of operations in 2001, had year-end sales of $17.2 billion. For more information, visit www.trw.com.
