Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles Releases Report Outlining Migration of Innovations to Commercial Vehicles

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 29 The Partnership for a New
Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) has released an annual report outlining
successful and pending implementation of technologies developed to decrease
fuel consumption and/or improve emissions.
The Review of Technical Progress of Goal 2 Research is compiled annually
to reflect the progress of PNGV in achieving the second of three program
goals. Goal 2 states that the program will lead to: "implementation of
commercially viable innovations on conventional vehicles." The technologies
enable fuel efficiency and/or emissions improvements without compromising
safety, performance, utility, or the environment.
The report details individual partner accomplishments, both collaborative
and proprietary. It serves as testimony to the overwhelming success PNGV has
achieved since the inception of the program.
"When PNGV started, we were confident that fuel-efficient technologies
would be implemented into production on an ongoing basis as regulatory and
customer acceptance criteria were met. The Goal 2 Report demonstrates our
good faith, with an impressive list of technologies that are delivering
benefits to society," said Ford PNGV director Mike Schwarz. "This is the true
measure of success of the program."
The full text of the report can be downloaded at http://www.uscar.org .
PNGV was created in 1993 when DaimlerChrysler, Ford, and General Motors
entered into an historic research partnership with the federal government to
develop commercially viable vehicle technology that, long-term, could preserve
personal mobility while further reducing the impact of cars and light trucks
on the environment and reducing the United States' dependence on imported
petroleum.
