Turner shines in traffic while Micks retains points lead

Castrol Super Series // Round #2 // FlexMor Trucking 150 // Peterborough
Speedway

LONDON, ON - With just 20 laps to go in Saturday night's FlexMor Trucking
150 Castrol Super Series race at Peterborough Speedway, Al Turner surprised
race dominator DJ Kennington and the capacity crowd with a gutsy move, in
traffic. The gamble paid off, and Turner was somehow able to keep his Blue
Streak Intrepid in front of Kennington's quicker Castrol Syntec Intrepid
for the final 20 laps.
The victory was Turner's fifth in the last two years and leaves him as the
sole Intrepid racer to visit Victory Lane in a major stock car series. The
score reads - Turner: 5... everyone else: zero. While drivers like Bill
Elliott, Sterling Marlin and Ward Burton are still chasing their first
checked flag in the offering from DaimlerChrysler, the Barrie, ON star is
coming up on a half-dozen wins in his trusty Blue Streak Intrepid.
"I knew I wasn't going to be able to get him [Kennington] on open track,"
said Turner, holding the winner's trophy. "I knew it was going to have to
be done in traffic. We were getting so many cautions that we weren't
getting the traffic. Then, finally, we caught up to some and on the way
into [turn] 3, he made a move to go to the high side and was run a little
bit high by a lapped car. I just took advantage of it and shot down to the
bottom. The car 'stuck' and we were able to come up off there in front.
From there, it was just a matter of holding him off."
Kennington, who drives the Castrol Syntec Intrepid, was somewhat
frustrated at not being able to close the deal. "The car was great. I
couldn't have made it any better. Like I said, it's a little bit
disappointing. I don't know what I have to do to win one of these things,
but we're going to keep knocking and we'll get one of these things before
the year is done; that's for sure... and hopefully more."
Former Castrol Super Series champion Mark Dilley started second in the
28-car field and completed the podium finishers in his NTN Taurus.
After two events, Kerry Micks - who was fourth at Peterborough - leads the
point standings with a 30-point lead over fellow Ford driver Kevin Dowler.
But so far, parity is the rule in the chase for the Castrol Cup, as there
are four Ford Taurus drivers, three Intrepid pilots, and three General
Motors pilots in the top 10.

and leads all rookie drivers with 253 points... For the second race in a
row, Blue Streak Hygrade Motor Products topped up the race payout, with an
additional $4,000 (total) going to the podium finishers. Blue Streak
Intrepid driver Al Turner walked away with the lion's share of the Podium
Bonus Award at Peterborough... Julian Renaud of Peterborough, ON was the
guest of Castrol and #17 Castrol Syntec Intrepid racer DJ Kennington at
Peterborough Speedway. The 15-year-old high school student was on hand as
part of the 'Castrol GTX Top Techs' program after being nominated for the
honour by his auto shop teacher. Renaud, who is a racing fan, enjoyed the
experience and said that being able to be part of the #17 crew for the
night allowed him to expand on some of the things he'd learned at school...
The next Castrol Super Series race takes place June 9 at Mosport Speedway.
