Turner pounces to victory in Peterborough
Castrol Super Series // Round #2 // Flex Mor Trucking 150 // Peterborough
Speedway
PETERBOROUGH, ON - Al Turner took advantage of a late-race opening to win
the Flex Mor Trucking 150 at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday night. The
Barrie, ON racer - who won four Castrol Super Series races in 2000 -
started sixth in the field of 28 drivers and dove inside of polesitter DJ
Kennington to take the lead with just 20 laps to go in the 150 lap chase.
After executing the race's only lead change, Turner was able to keep his
Blue Streak Intrepid pinned to the bottom of the track, denying
Kennington's Castrol Intrepid an opportunity to retake the lead. At the
finish, Turner came home less than a fifth of a second ahead of Kennington.
NTN Ford driver Mark Dilley completed the podium finishers, taking third
place in the season's second Castrol Super Series start.
True to its reputation, the high-banked, 1/3-mile Peterborough oval was
tough on equipment as many of the racecars were scarred in one way or
another, by the end of the night. Eleven caution flags slowed the race for
a total of 56 laps.
Kerry Micks, the winner of last week's season opener at Delaware Speedway,
was fourth and leads the Castrol Super Series points chase after two events.
The series takes a break next weekend before returning to action on June 9
at the half-mile Mosport Speedway oval, located near Oshawa, Ontario.
