NEC Computers Inc. to Sponsor Indy Regency Racing Team At Indy 500
SACRAMENTO, Calif.--May 25, 2001--NEC Computers Inc., a leading provider of mobile, desktop and server computing solutions for the enterprise market, today announced its sponsorship of the Indy Regency Racing team (www.indyregencyracing.com), owner of No. 16 car and driver Cory Witherill, for the Indianapolis 500 race on Sunday, May 27. The Indy Regency Racing team will be using the following NEC products for the event:
-- | Versa(R) DayLite(TM) notebook computer |
-- | Versa(R) LXi notebook computer |
-- | MobilePro(TM) 780 handheld PC |
-- | NEC/Mitsubishi 2010 flat panel monitor |
"The IRR team is very happy and excited to be using NEC's products, particularly the Versa DayLite. This notebook solves two of the biggest problems we face in outdoor sport computing -- short battery life and poor display readability," said Bill Bartley, director of marketing, IRR. "Our pit crew has been staring at notebook displays reading racecar data for many years, but the DayLite screen is the most awesome new display technology we have ever used. The brighter the sun, the better it looks."
"We are thrilled to be providing key technology to the IRR team and Cory Witherall for such an exciting event," said Larry Miller, vice president of marketing, NEC Computers Inc. "The top three features that racing teams are expressing interest in is an outdoor viewable screen, longer battery life, and lightweight mobility. These products enable drivers to have access to critical information and instant feedback on the track, while the Versa DayLite takes mobile computing one step further by delivering a screen that offers a crisp image in bright lighting conditions that typically wash-out the screens on standard, backlit displays."
Witherill, 29, from Santa Monica, Calif., comes to Indy Racing after a successful career in a variety of motorsports, including Indy Lights, sprint cars, off-road racing and motocross. He completed his Indy Racing League rookie test in August 2000 and passed the Indianapolis 500 Rookie Orientation Program this year. Witherill is the first full-blooded Native American driver to compete in the Indianapolis 500.
