Louis D. Camino, Rouge Industries, Inc.
President, to Retire June 2001
DEARBORN, Mich., May 24 Rouge Industries, Inc.
announced today that Mr. Louis D. Camino, its president and chief operating
officer, will retire effective June 1, 2001.
Mr. Camino joined Rouge Steel Company as its president and chief operating
officer in February 1990, shortly after the Company's acquisition from Ford
Motor Company. During his eleven years at the helm of the Company's operating
components, the Company made considerable improvements in its safety, quality,
and productivity and cost performance levels.
According to Carl L. Valdiserri, "We were fortunate to have Lou leading
our operations during our transition years from an adjunct to an automotive
company to an independent and competitive steel maker and supplier of choice.
On behalf of all Rouge Steel employees, we thank him for his tireless efforts
to continuously improve the Company's operating performance, and now, we wish
him all the best in his retirement years."
During Mr. Camino's tenure, Rouge Steel Company was the first global steel
producer to achieve the Big 3's then highest quality distinction -- QS-9001,
and for 2000, Rouge Steel was named General Motors Corporation's "Supplier of
the Year" for flat rolled steel.
