Dana's Perfect Circle Facility Earns Indiana Environmental Award

Perfect Circle Division Richmond Liner Foundry has earned the Indiana
Governor's Award for Excellence in Recycling.

    The facility earned the honor for its determination in finding an
innovative approach to turning a non-hazardous waste material -- quenched
cupola slag -- into a resource. The slag material is now being used by an Ohio
cement producer as a substitute raw material in the manufacturing of cement.
    Since the program began in March of 1999, 64 million pounds of cupola slag
have been recycled, saving the company more than $100,000 per year in landfill
costs.
    "I am very proud of the efforts of our people," said Tom Bryant, plant
manager of the Richmond Liner Foundry.  "We contacted nearly 40 companies in
the industry, before finding a suitable recycling application for this
material."
    Dan Moody, vice president of Dana's Engine Products Group, said, "This
type of innovative thinking is good for Dana and good for the environment.
Their determination and creativity is truly an example of the 'People Finding

    Lori F. Kaplan, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Environmental
Management, said, "I am pleased to honor the extraordinary efforts of these
recipients to reduce, reuse and recycle.  This project is an excellent example
of how individuals, businesses and local governments can work together to
provide Hoosiers with a cleaner place to live."
