Legal, Ethics and Compliance Training Goes Global; LRN Announces New International Courses
LOS ANGELES--May 24, 2001--LRN(R), The Legal Knowledge Company(TM), today announced that long-time Legal Compliance and Education Center (LCEC)(TM) customer Johnson Controls Inc. will be the first company to bring LRN's international, foreign language courses to its employees abroad. The courses, on European Union competition and privacy laws, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, ethical sales practices and resolving conflicts of interest, bring to 134 the total number of course modules in the LRN library.
"With 500 locations around the world, Johnson Controls is an incredibly diverse company, both in terms of our products and people. Despite this diversity, we strongly believe that one thing must be uniform throughout: a firm commitment to acting lawfully and ethically," said John Kennedy, vice president, corporate secretary and general counsel for Johnson Controls Inc.
"We're committed to treating our customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers and the community with honesty, dignity, fairness and respect wherever we do business," said Kennedy.
"We've been exceptionally pleased with how LRN has helped make it much simpler for our employees to understand what living up to that commitment really means. We're even more pleased that we'll now be able to bring the LRN solution to our employees abroad in their native languages."
The courses Johnson Controls will be using have been translated into French, German, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. Each has been designed to include an interactive tutorial, online handbook, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and the other features that are found in all LCEC modules. Each module has been designed to train employees to be able to identify and respond properly to legal and ethical issues that they may encounter in their work.
"Our mission is to help increase the level of ethical and legal awareness on an enterprise-wide basis," said Dov L. Seidman, LRN's chairman and chief executive officer.
"And that means delivering relevant knowledge, in the native language, to our customer's employees at any time and place the employee needs it. The new courses we just launched deliver on that promise. Having them selected by an ethics leader like Johnson Controls makes the accomplishment all the more fulfilling."
These new course modules are the first of several foreign language courses LRN is launching to better serve its global LCEC customers. These industry-leading customers include both U.S. multinationals such as General Motors, Johnson & Johnson, Motorola and Raytheon, along with Panasonic, Toyota Motor Sales, LVMH, Vivendi Universal and other international companies.
In addition, LRN is now offering its customers the option of having any of the 120 English-language courses in the current curriculum translated into any language of their choice.
LRN offers its LCEC modules using a learning management software platform that LRN provides on an application service provider (ASP) basis. This solution frees customers from having to invest in additional technology. Hosting, maintenance and updating of the modules are all handled by LRN.
"What's particularly attractive about the LRN approach," said Kennedy, "is that we can meet the needs of our work force around the world without increasing our technical burden. That's incredibly liberating, since it allows us to focus on our objectives and not on technical requirements."
