INDIANAPOLIS, Tuesday, May 22, 2001 - Indy Racing standout Sarah Fisher will give a jump start to Indianapolis-area Girl Scouts about the basics of car care at a special event May 23 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Nearly 500 Girl Scouts have registered to attend the event, which takes place from 4-6 p.m. at the Plaza Chalet Tent #3 on 500 Festival Community Day at the track. The event is sponsored by Firestone MasterCare® Car Service.

Fisher, who will start 15th in the Indianapolis 500 on May 27, will offer common-sense maintenance tips to help Junior, Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts earn requirements for their Car Sense Interest Project Patch and Car Care Badge. The badge programs encourage girls to learn about basic car maintenance and repair and to explore careers in automotive fields.

Fisher, who lives in Indianapolis, will be pinned as an honorary Girl Scout in the Hoosier Capital Girl Scout Council. Fisher, 20, drives the No. 15 Walker Racing Kroger Special Dallara/Oldsmobile/Firestone.

In addition to attending Fisher's presentation, the Girl Scouts can participate in mini-clinics with Firestone technicians that will offer hands-on activities such as checking oil and tire pressure.
