May 22, 2001Jeg and Troy Coughlin are ready to make some noise when the Pro Stock brother duo returns to Heartland Park Topeka for the NHRA Advanced Auto Parts Nationals. Things have been relatively quiet in the Team Jeg's camp this year. The win column has not reflected the skill and talent that the team has.
"The new Chevrolet Cavaliers have been an adjustment for us and just about every Pro Stock team out has hit bumps in the road so far this season. Just look at the competitiveness of the class. We have had five different winners this season and only two of us have won twice," explained Jeg.
Jeg Coughlin and his yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier are ready to strike from the No. 4 position. He has 498 points and enters the ninth race of the season trailing the top spot by 43 points.
"We just have not capitalized on some of the opportunities that we have had. There have been a couple of times this season where the guys in front of us in the points have been sidelined early in eliminations and we just have fallen short of turning those opportunities into a win," said Jeg.
The first of the three races in the current three in a row stretch for the NHRA has been completed (Englishtown, NJ). Team Jeg's is focused on the next two races and believes that they can really turn their season around with back-to-back strong performances.
"The points are still really tight among the top five. We are capable of winning the next two races and that is our goal for Team Jeg's," stated Jeg.
"There are a lot of variables in this sport. You need to do hundreds of things right and one thing wrong can put an end to your weekend," added Troy.
Troy Coughlin is sitting in the No. 19 position with 164 points. He is 183 points from breaking back into the top ten. He knows that with two very strong finishes he is capable of returning to the top ten.
"My goal is to qualify for the next two races and be in the top ten by the time we race at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals. We have everything in place to make this happen. We just need to focus and get a couple of breaks along the way. Having positive momentum on your side makes all the difference in the world," said Troy.
