Johnson Controls Executive Equilla Wainwright
Named to Distinguished Black Women of 2001 List
MILWAUKEE, May 21 Equilla Wainwright, director of
diversity at Johnson Controls , has been named one of the
Distinguished Black Women of 2001 by Black Women in Sisterhood for Action
(BISA).
This year's honorees were recognized at the BISA's 18th Annual Gala Salute
to Distinguished Black Women held in Washington, D.C. The BISA is a nonprofit
corporation dedicated to developing and promoting alternative strategies for
the educational and career development of black women.
Wainwright, recently promoted to director of diversity for the Controls
business at Johnson Controls, was previously director of human resources. As
human resources director, she earned the reputation for being dedicated to
creating a fair and inclusive work environment for all as well as having a
commitment to excellence on a daily basis.

the Controls business at Johnson Controls.
The BISA Distinguished Black Women of 2001 award is the second major honor
for Wainwright, who joined Johnson Controls in 1996. In 1999, she was named
to the WLA 100s List, Women in Corporate America category, by Women Looking
Ahead News magazine of Atlanta.
Wainwright, an Atlanta resident, is responsible for the development and
implementation of the diversity platform for the Controls business, which
includes the Systems and Services North America and the Systems Products
divisions of Johnson Controls. Prior to joining the company, she held career
posts with Ford Motor Co. and MCI WorldCom.
A native of Muncie, Ind., Wainwright holds a bachelor's degree in business
administration from Ball State University in Muncie and a master's degree in
managerial sciences from Central Michigan University, Detroit campus. She is
a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, National Council of Negro Women,
National Society of Human Resources Management and serves on the board of
Women Looking Ahead News magazine. She is a member of Cascade United
Methodist Church in Atlanta.
