May 21, 2001Post-Race comments from Mike Skinner, No. 31 Lowe's Chevrolet Monte Carlo (finished 9th in The Winston Open):
"That's not quite how I envisioned the race going for the Lowe's Chevy. We were a little tight at the beginning of the 30-lap race, but the guys loosened it up during a pit stop. That helped a lot and we started buzzing by a lot of the guys. I really thought we had a shot at grabbing the lead until the Lowe's Chevy and another car bumped each other. I tried like heck to hang onto the car and somehow (I) saved it. That was so important because we plan on taking this car to next week's Coca-Cola 600. We're pretty disappointed because our car was good and we were moving up in the field so fast. But we accomplished one of our big goals tonight - learning something about how this car will race next week. We didn't want The Winston Open to be just a practice for the Lowe's team or next week, but we'll take it."
