'Gas Gift Cards' Bring Metro Detroit Drivers $300 Relief at the Gas Pump; Chrysler Jeep Superstores Give Pre-Paid $300 Gas Gift Cards Next Week

          Memorial Day Weekend Relief Comes With One Week Only Event

    DETROIT, May 18 While rapidly climbing gas pump prices are
socking it to metro Detroiters, one group of auto dealers is bringing relief
with a $300 pre-paid "Gas Gift Card" with the purchase or lease of new
minivans next week, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
    Chrysler Jeep Superstores will give a "Gas Gift Card" good for $300 to
each person who buys or leases a new minivan financed through Chrysler
Financial during a special promotion next week, starting Monday, May 21
through Friday, May 25, 2001.
    "We wanted to do something that would bring some relief to our customers
right now," said Mark Snethkamp, president of the Chrysler Jeep Superstores
Association.  "So, we turned our Memorial Day sales event into this advance,
one-week 'Gas Gift Card' program.  We think that $300 in free gas will help
everyone as they go into holiday weekend, and into the summer."
