MANN+HUMMEL AUTOMOTIVE Breaks Ground on Second
Expansion in Three Years
PORTAGE, Mich., May 17 In April, MANN+HUMMEL AUTOMOTIVE,
Inc. began the second expansion of its 119,000-square-foot manufacturing
facility in Portage, Michigan.
The expansion, which is targeted for completion late this summer, will
bring the size of the facility to approximately 134,000 square feet. The
added capacity of the plant, which sits on an 18-acre site, is needed to
accommodate additional manufacturing cells for the production of intake
manifolds.
"Our growth has been strong since our inception here in the U.S. Although
the market has softened recently, our growth continues to be steady, which has
driven the need for our latest expansion. Expanding both our customer base
and our product offering to include air cleaners, oil modules and complete
induction systems in addition to manifolds has contributed to that growth and
will ultimately lead to a third expansion in the next few years," said James
J. Riordan, president, MANN+HUMMEL AUTOMOTIVE, Inc.
The first expansion, which took place in 1998, doubled the size of the
facility after MANN+HUMMEL AUTOMOTIVE, Inc. acquired tier-one fluid reservoir
supplier, Geiger Technic, Inc. to establish a manufacturing platform in North
America.
The Portage location, which is QS-9000, ISO9001 and VDA certified, serves
as the North American engineering and design center for MANN+HUMMEL AUTOMOTIVE
and currently supports the production of intake manifolds, modules and fluid
reservoirs. A second facility in Portage houses the company's rapidly growing
aftermarket filtration business. With 2000 sales of approximately $1 billion,
the MANN+HUMMEL Group is organized into two divisions, automotive and
industrial. The automotive division, which serves the OEM, OES and
Aftermarket, manufactures components ranging from air, oil, fuel and cabin
filters, to oil modules, fluid reservoirs, air cleaners, composite intake
manifolds, manifold modules and complete induction systems. With 27
manufacturing/sales locations worldwide, MANN+HUMMEL employs approximately
7,800 people.
