CTS Announces New ClearONE SSTL-2 Termination Sets for DDR SDRAM Bus Designs

    ELKHART, Ind.--May 17, 2001--CTS Corporation today announced a new family of ClearONE(TM) SSTL-2 termination sets, which greatly improve signal clarity by minimizing distortion in Double Data Rate (DDR) Synchronous DRAM bus designs.
    CTS ClearONE termination networks (Part No. RT1400) provide high performance resistor termination for SSTL-2 Class I or Class II systems. The high speed memory data transfer rate utilized in DDR SDRAM requires resistive termination of the signal lines. CTS' ClearONE termination sets were designed to provide a complete drop-in solution for the multiple line terminations required. Typical applications include communications and network servers and routers, digital switch systems, telecom servers; computer workstations, notebooks, minis and high-end desktops, mainframes, storage systems; and instrumentation (semiconductor) test equipment and automated test equipment.
    Designed with ball grid array (BGA) packaging, the RT1400 termination set provides a highly integrated solution, while maintaining excellent signal separation and integrity. Ideal for space constrained, high frequency memory system board designs, ClearONE RT1400 products are the first ball grid array SSTL-2 termination sets to provide excellent high frequency data transmission--with maximum design flexibility.
    A solid ceramic substrate design, employed in all CTS ClearONE terminators, virtually eliminates parasitic impedance that diminishes signal integrity and reduces system performance. And, CTS' slim, BGA packages ease trace routing design, saving the designer hours of printed circuit board layout time. These designs can be configured to meet the specific requirements of each application. Further, BGA packaging has been proven to both reduce rework and add reliability to the most sophisticated designs.
    To simplify the design task, the CTS RT1400 features a 9-bit fully integrated terminator, and 18-bit bias and source termination sets, in choice of 1mm or 1.27mm pitch BGA packages. Whether the board designer is using module connectors or applying the memory components directly to the systems board, CTS offers the right pitch package to speed the design to completion.
    ClearONE DDR SDRAM termination sets additionally feature: Plus/minus 1 percent resistor tolerance, are compliant to JEDEC Standards, and exhibit channel capacitance of less than 0.75pF.
    CTS ClearONE RT1400 termination sets are immediately available from stock. Custom values and tolerances may be special ordered. Pricing for an 18-bit termination set is $1.50 in 10,000 piece production quantities.
