Texas Gas Prices Reach Record Highs; AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report
HOUSTON--May 16, 2001--Gas prices in Texas have reached record levels this month.The current statewide average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $1.57, an 8 cents increase from last month's average price of $1.49 a gallon. It is also nearly a dime more than last May's average of $1.48 a gallon.
The highest average price for regular in Texas can be found in Dallas at $1.67 a gallon, followed by Fort Worth at $1.66 and Amarillo at $1.65.
Nationally, AAA's Fuel Gauge Report shows the average price at $1.71, up 13 cents from a month ago. Last year, the average was $1.50 a gallon.
The lowest statewide average price in the nation is in Georgia, where the price of gasoline averages nearly $1.50 a gallon. On the other end of the scale, the highest statewide average in the U.S. is in California at $2.00 a gallon.
