Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered in Chester
County
Vehicle Identification Numbers Etched Onto Vehicle Windows
As A Means Of Theft Prevention
EXTON, Pa., May 16 The Pa. Auto Theft Prevention Authority
will co-sponsor a free VIN etching event, held by the Pennsylvania State
Police Auto Theft Task Force (Eastern Region), on Saturday, May 19, 2001, from
10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Open to the public, the event will be held at the Exton
Mall (Boscov's parking lot), Route 100, Exton, Pa.
VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's
Identification Number (VIN) is etched on to all the vehicle windows. Would-be
thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN etched because that vehicle is
more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to
remove traces of the VIN.
This is a free service provided by the Pa. Auto Theft Prevention
Authority. The Authority's staff, local and state police officers, and
volunteers from local insurance companies will etch the first 300 vehicles
(weather permitting) on a first-come, first-served basis. The Authority
encourages vehicle owners to spend some time at the mall on Saturday to take
this step to help protect their vehicles.
Pre-event questions about the Authority may be directed to Ken Robinson at
215-485-1636 or 717-975-0812.
