ZAPPY Electric Scooters Now Legal on California Bicycle Paths
SEBASTOPOL, Calif., May 15 With record gas prices and
traffic congestion, ZAPWORLD.COM is reminding people that
Thursday, May 17 is National Bike-to-Work Day and adds that its ZAPPY electric
scooters are now legal on California bicycle paths.
ZAPWORLD.COM (ZAP) of Sebastopol, California says that ZAPPY electric
scooters have been given the green light by California to use on bicycle
paths. Sonoma County, where ZAP is headquartered, recently expanded its
network of bicycle paths and has even installed signs permitting scooters. The
new California law allows electric scooters on bicycle paths and bicycle lanes
as long as the rider is 16 or older, wears a helmet and goes under 15 MPH.
ZAP shipping manager Ricardo Rivera, 27, is a regular ZAPPY commuter,
using it to commute ten miles round-trip on the new bicycle path that connects
Sebastopol to nearby Santa Rosa. ZAP offers a commute incentive plan to its
employees, paying a dollar a day to carpool, take mass transit, ride a bicycle
or take a ZAP vehicle to work.
"I ride my ZAPPY to work because it's fun, good for the environment and
saves money on gasoline," said Rivera. "You know the way those gas prices are
going up."
Alternative transportation like the ZAPPY might even save you time. A new
study shows Americans spend 36 hours per year stuck in traffic, up from
11 hours in 1982. The study also points out that "rush hour" is a misnomer
with city streets and highways often congested for six to seven hours per day,
according to a study from Texas A&M. The study estimates the yearly cost in
lost productivity to be $78 billion, totaling 4.5 billion hours of delay and
6.8 billion gallons of wasted fuel.
Gas prices have surpassed $2 per gallon in California and some experts are
predicting they will jump to $3 this summer based on oil shortages and recent
oil refinery fires. Studies show that electric bikes and scooters are more
than 90 percent less polluting than automobiles. A ten-mile trip in your car
can cost about $6.00 while a ZAP costs about 8 cents. ZAPPY scooters also fold
so they can be used with mass transit. For more information about ZAP
vehicles visit http://www.zapworld.com/zapfacts.htm .
ZAP, which stands for Zero Air Pollution, is recognized as a worldwide
leader in light electric transportation, manufacturing electric bicycles,
scooters, mopeds, motorcycles and more. ZAP's common shares are listed on the
Nasdaq Small Cap market under the trading symbol "ZAPP." For information on
