LONDON, May 15 http://www.just-auto.com -- Japan's leading
vehicle maker is undertaking a drastic revision of its production and
distribution strategies in sub-Saharan Africa with the apparent aim of
becoming Africa's No. 1 automotive brand, according to an article by Colin
Haynes published by just-auto.
The members' article at
http://www.just-auto.com/features_detail.asp?art=495&app=1 says that the pace
of the African offensive will quicken in July as Toyota Motor Corporation
increases its stake in its South African franchisee, developing the local
facilities as a manufacturing and distribution hub for the sub-continent.
This will speed up deliveries to Africa and also enable TMC to make better
use of the substantial engineering expertise available in South Africa to
develop vehicles for emerging markets.
Toyota South Africa (TSA) is the country's last vehicle maker listed on
the Johannesburg stock exchange and will be de-listed in July to enable it to
be fully integrated into the Japanese company's global strategy.
