Infomedia and General Motors Sign Long Term Asia Pacific Data Licence
NARRABEEN, Australia--May 15, 2001--Automotive industry I.T. developer, Infomedia Ltd. today announced the signing of a 4 year exclusive data license agreement with General Motors' Asia Pacific to supply its Microcat(R) electronic parts catalog system to General Motors dealers in the region.Microcat is an electronic parts selling system for the automotive industry. It is designed to make the selection and sale of replacement parts quicker, easier and more accurate.
Speaking from Japan, Richard Graham, Chairman and CEO of Infomedia Ltd. said, "The signing of this agreement represents a milestone for Microcat. It recognizes Infomedia's international depth and global expansion in the field of electronic parts catalogs."
Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Datateck Publishing Pty Limited, Infomedia and General Motors' Holden subsidiary have enjoyed a long and fruitful association in Australia and New Zealand. Initially, Datateck supplied microfiche parts catalogs for Holden vehicles in the 1970's, followed by the supply of the Partfinder(R) EPC system in the 1990's.
Infomedia and General Motors are now working together throughout Asia Pacific to enhance the sales of genuine parts in the region. General Motors' dealers in Indonesia will be the first to benefit from the Microcat system, followed by eleven other Asia Pacific countries including China, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
This agreement further extends the companies' business association. Microcat will improve the ability of Asian dealers to sell genuine GM parts more easily and even more accurately.
"This is the first time in Asia Pacific that multiple General Motors sources have been brought together in one system. Microcat replaces the individual CD's supplied by different manufacturing centres and rationalizes the data into one system. We expect this contract to add several hundred dealers to our user base over time," said Graham.
