Tortelli takes 2nd at Glen Helen MX season opener; Edwards finishes 2nd at both Monza WSB races

2001 AMA/Chevy Trucks National Motocross Series, Round 1: Glen Helen Raceway,
San Bernardino, CA, May 13, 2001

Honda Racing's Sebastien Tortelli started the AMA's outdoor national motocross
series in a strong fashion Sunday, winning the first moto and taking fifth in
the second moto after two spills; he ended the day with a solid second-place
overall. Tim Ferry rode both motos to a second-place finish and took the
overall win for the day.

Amzoil / Dr. Martens / Competition Accessories / Honda rider Mike LaRocco rode
to a 4-4 finish, giving him fifth overall while Tortelli's teammate Ezra Lusk
carded 6-6 results and sixth overall.

The debut of the Honda four-stroke CRF450R, ridden by Honda Racing's Ryan Hughes
was impressive. Hughes finished the first moto with an excellent fifth place
showing, but broken goggles slowed him to ninth in the second moto and he ended
the day seventh overall.

Extreme sports athlete Shaun Palmer made his 2001 motocross debut on a
Honda-supported CR250R with a strong qualifying effort, but crashed early in the
first moto and retired for the day with an injured finger.

2001 World Superbike Championship Series Round 5: Monza, Italy, May 13, 2001

Castrol Honda's Colin Edwards finished second in both races on Sunday at Round 5
of the World Superbike Series in Monza, Italy. Teammate Tady Okada finished
fourth in the second race after a DNF in race one.

"After the disaster we suffered in Japan two weeks ago," said Edwards, "it was
nice to be there challenging for a win again. I'd tried everything I knew in
that first race and in the second I was just looking to be in a good position on
the last lap. I'll take a couple of second places and move onto the next round.
I've closed the gap to the lead of the championship this weekend and we proved
that the VTR is strong and the Michelin tires are working well."

Okada's fourth place in race two came after the Japanese star set the fastest
lap on his way from seventh place to third, only to lose third place on the
penultimate lap.

"I was hoping for a podium finish but after crashing in the first race, I'll
take fourth. I was losing ground to Yanagawa and Chili at the end of the race
when the rear tire started to move around a little and I lost traction. My left
shoulder's a bit sore from the highside in the first race but I'm happy to leave
here with a fourth and look for better results at Donington Park in two weeks."
