Hayes Lemmerz Facilities Achieve Safety Milestone

NORTHVILLE, Mich., May 11 Hayes Lemmerz International
today announced that it has recorded its best safety statistics in
the history of the Company for fiscal year 2000. Worldwide, the overall
incidence rate for the Company was 13.1, a 16% improvement from 1999, and in

Lemmerz' employees. To achieve this excellent safety record is testimony that
our employees and management fully support and understand the importance of
safety in the workplace. I applaud the efforts of everyone involved."

attained the milestone will be presented with the Company's prestigious Award
for Safety and Health from visiting Company officials in May and June.
