Quest Diagnostics CEO Kenneth W. Freeman Named to TRW Board of Directors
CLEVELAND--May 10, 2001--TRW Inc. today announced the election of Kenneth W. Freeman to the company's board of directors. The appointment is effective immediately and increases the number of TRW directors to 13.Mr. Freeman, 50, is chairman and chief executive officer of Quest Diagnostics Incorporated , Teterboro, N.J. Quest Diagnostics, with 2000 revenues of $3.4 billion, is the nation's leading provider of diagnostic testing, information, and services. The company's diagnostic testing yields information that enables healthcare professionals to make better decisions to improve health. The company recently earned the prestigious top ranking in the Barron's 500, the magazine's unique report card that grades how well businesses have performed for their investors. Under Mr. Freeman's leadership, Quest Diagnostics has had strong annual profit growth and has grown sharply since 1999, when it acquired the clinical laboratory business of SmithKline Beecham plc.

Mr. Freeman joined Corning in 1972 as an internal auditor. He was appointed senior vice president and corporate controller in 1985. He subsequently was the general manager of several operating divisions at Corning. In 1995 he was appointed president and chief executive officer of Corning's laboratory testing business, Corning Clinical Laboratories. In January 1997, when the business was spun off to Corning's shareholders as Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, Mr. Freeman was named chairman, chief executive officer, and president.
Mr. Freeman is a member of the board of directors of Quest Diagnostics and of MedPlus, Inc. He holds an MBA from Harvard University and a bachelor of science degree from Bucknell University.
