Volkswagen and Trek Take to the Open Road
Together To Support Bicycle Road Racing in North
America
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 10 Volkswagen of America, Inc.
and Trek Bicycles have once again teamed up to share more than the roads. The
success of the Volkswagen Trek Mountain bike team and Trek's sponsorship of
the United States Postal Service Team has prompted the formation of the new
Trek Volkswagen Regional Road Program. The partnership has formed the program
to promote regional road bike racing in North America.
The program will assist eleven regional road teams affiliated with Trek
dealers. Volkswagen will provide 10 custom painted and decaled new Passat
Wagons as well as financial support to the teams. In addition, Trek will
provide each team with Trek 5200 OCLV road bikes, Nike technical clothing and
footwear, helmets, casual clothing and a tent.
Volkswagen and Trek hope that their support will help foster the growth of
road racing throughout North America.
According to Stan Gregg, president of Gregg's Greenlake Cycle in Seattle,
the launch of the program has already had an impact. "The decision by
Volkswagen and Trek to sponsor regional teams has definitely spiked interest
in our area. We had more qualified applicants than we could accept for the
team," said Gregg.
The following shops have been selected to manage teams under the Trek
Volkswagen Regional Road Program:
Cycle Science Juno Beach, Florida
Cyclery USA Redlands, California
Goodale's Bike Shop Hooksett, New Hampshire
