CART/INDY 500: Andretti to Complete Racing World Tour in May

INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, May 9, 2001) -- Qualify in Indianapolis, race in Japan and then race in Indy ... on three consecutive weekends on two continents across one ocean. How is Michael Andretti going to accomplish all of that in 20 days? Here is a Team Motorola/Archipelago Timeline to follow Michael as he logs more than 13,000 air miles in this 20-day span.

  • Sunday, May 6 Depart Nazareth, Pa. for Indianapolis
  • May 7 - 12 Practice and Qualifications at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis
  • Sunday, May 13 Depart for Chicago
  • Monday, May 14 5:00 a.m. departure for Tokyo, Japan
  • Tuesday, May 15 Arrive Narita airport and spend the press day with Honda Tokyo, Japan (Lose one day on flight to Japan)
  • Wednesday, May 16 Depart Tokyo for Twin Ring Motegi and Honda plant toursMotegi, Japan
  • May 17-19 Practice, qualifying and race at Twin Ring Motegi Motegi, Japan
  • May 19 Depart for Tokyo immediately following race
  • May 19 Depart Tokyo for Indianapolis
  • May 19 Arrive Indianapolis at approximately 10 p.m. (Gain one day one day on the return flight from Japan)
  • May 20 Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • May 20 Depart for Nazareth, Pennsylvania
  • May 23 Return to Indianapolis
  • May 23-26 Community Day, Carburetion Day (final practice), Sponsor visits, "500" Festival Parade
  • May 27 Indianapolis 500 - Finally!

There is only more leg of this trip Michael would want to make -- the press trip to New York City on May 28 to New York City following a victory at the Brickyard!
