ArvinMeritor Performance System Drives Wheels Division into the Future

TROY, Mich., May 8 ArvinMeritor, Inc. recently
launched a new continuous improvement process called the ArvinMeritor
Performance System (AMPS). The system combines white shirt (people supportive
practices) principles and continuous improvement manufacturing (lean)
techniques from ArvinMeritor's Wheels Division and the former Arvin Total
Quality Production System.

ArvinMeritor's Wheels Division already has an outstanding track record in
continuous improvement initiatives. The group developed the white shirt
philosophy, which encourages managers and supervisors to support, promote,
coach and mentor employee teams to create a culture of continuous improvement.
Last year alone the division implemented more than 3,123 improvement
solutions, saving more than $4.7 million.

In addition, the Wheels Division has earned recognition for its continuous
improvement practices throughout the plant communities and the industry. The
Limeira, Brazil, facility garnered the "Best Place to Work" award for three
consecutive years. Both Limeira and the San Luis Potosi facilities were
recognized by OEMs for excellence in technical support and services. And,
Toyota, Fiat, DaimlerChrysler, GM and Honda have presented the Wheels Division
with top awards for service and quality.

The new ArvinMeritor Performance System promises even more improvements
and industry leading innovations for the Wheels Division. AMPS includes not
only white shirt principles, but also 20 keys to help employees perform self-
assessments and plan their success as well as a recognition program for their
accomplishments.

"The best aspects of each of our systems have been combined for a new and
improved system and for a common language approach," says Kathy Banks,
ArvinMeritor vice president, Continuous Improvement. "Each and every employee
at ArvinMeritor will be involved in driving out waste, eliminating non-value-
added work and improving work processes."
