Hayes Lemmerz International Honors Student Designers Who Transformed Wheels Into Works of Art

    NORTHVILLE, Mich., May 8 Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc.
, a leading global supplier to the automotive and commercial
highway industry, today announced the winners of its 2001 Student Design
Scholarship Competition.
    This year, Hayes Lemmerz International sponsored the design competition
that challenged Center for Creative Studies (CCS) students to create a work of
art that illustrated the early development of the automobile wheel.
    The winner of first-place and a $1,250 scholarship was Janet Markland of
Detroit, Mich.  Janet is a senior in the Industrial Design program.  Second
place went to Elizabeth Smith of Beverly Hills, Mich., a senior in the
Communication Design program.  Elizabeth received a $500 scholarship award.
    "This competition was established as part of Hayes Lemmerz ongoing
commitment in our community to the arts and education as well as to foster
excellence in automotive product design," said Larry Karenko, Vice President,
Human Resources and Administration.
    Student work was judged on creativity and professionalism.  Judging of the
contest's entries was conducted by a panel representing Hayes Lemmerz
International and the Preston Burke Gallery, in Royal Oak, Mich.
    The award winning work will be included and displayed in Hayes Lemmerz's
corporate art collection at its world headquarters in Northville, Michigan.

Creative Studies (CCS) College of Art and Design, in Detroit, Michigan has one
of the best transportation design programs in undergraduate education in the
world.
