#66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard
Lehigh Valley Grand Prix - Race Notes/Quotes - Sunday, May 6, 2001
Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway -1-Mile Tri-Oval
Round 4 of 21 on the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series

Alex Zanardi and the #66 Pioneer-WorldCom/Mo Nunn Racing Honda-Reynard
retired with gearbox trouble on Lap 176 of today's 225-lap Lehigh Valley
Grand Prix at Nazareth Speedway. Having started 21st, he was running
several laps down due to handling problems on the 1-mile tri-oval, then
began experiencing gearbox problems in the latter stages of his run before
retiring. He completed 167 laps on the day.

Zanardi's teammate Tony Kanaan and the #55 Hollywood/Mo Nunn Racing
Honda-Reynard made a valiant bid, leading 64 laps and setting the fastest
lap of the race but seeing his gamble on pit strategy not pay off. He led
Laps 126-189, had to pit for fuel on Lap 190, and ended up 16th to end his
streak of seventh-place finishes in the first two events.

After a weekend off, the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series resumes with
Round 5 at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan May 17-19.

ALEX ZANARDI

"What can you say after a weekend like we had? Today, the car started
feeling out of balance right when the leaders first came up behind me early
in the race, so I was fighting that until the first round of pit stops.
Then, we ended up developing transmission problems that almost put me into
the wall three times. The car would come out of gear as I was coming to the
corners. So we decided the safe thing to do would be to park the car and
call it a weekend. Thankfully, we have that all behind us."
