NHRA: Jeg's trucks are looking good

A total of 34 Pro Stock Trucks began their battle today. They will battle over four qualifying sessions to be among the quick sixteen that get to play on raceday and have a chance to win the NHRA Advanced Auto Parts Nationals.

John Coughlin and his yellow and black Jeg Mail Order Chevy S-10 was the first of the Team Jeg's vehicles to roll on to the track. He launched from the starting line and made a move to the left at the 60-foot clock. John quickly drove the Chevrolet S-10 to the center of the groove in the right lane.

John ran a 7.598 at 177.07 mph. He landed in the No. 12 position after the first qualifying session.

"We made a good run in the first session in the Jeg's Chevy S-10 and we can start the weekend with a good baseline. The guts have been really busy working on our engine combination since we last raced in Las Vegas and it is great to see everyone's hard work start to pay off," said John.

In the first session Mike Coughlin lined up in the left lane. The Jeg's machine rocketed off of the line to the big end. Mike crossed the 60-foot clock with a 1.062, which was the quickest of the session. He ran a 7.562 at 177.58 mph and moved into the No. 4 spot.

"It feels great to start the weekend on a high note. We have a great baseline to tune from and we are looking forward to making some noise this weekend in our Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10's," commented Mike.

The second session was held Friday evening and is traditionally has the best conditions of the weekend. Every team knows how important that is to make a solid run during this session.

John took on the left lane in the second session. The Jeg's machine darted off of the line and stayed in the center of the groove until the finish line. He ran a 7.591 at 177.00 mph. The run was an improvement and John moved slipped to the No. 16 slot.

"The run in the second session felt better then what the time ticket showed. I felt like I might have over run first gear and that probably hurt us a little. The important thing is the we have these Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10's running competitive and that is a real testament to how hard Scott and everyone has been working in the shop on this new engine program," said John.

Mike lined up in the right lane for the second session. His run looked about as good as it gets visually. He ran a 7.581 at 176.81 mph. Mike moved into the No. 9 spot and will have two additional qualifying sessions tomorrow to improve his position.

"The second run we made really felt good from the my seat in the Chevy S-10. The Jeg's machine hooked up well with the track from start to finish. We will continue to fine tune these bow ties and make improvements tomorrow morning," explained Mike.
