Toyota Announces Prices for the 2002 Corolla

TORRANCE, Calif., May 4 Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A.,
Inc., today announced that prices for the 2002 Toyota Corolla compact sedan
will remain unchanged from the current model. The new Corolla, expected in
dealer showrooms in mid-May, will offer more value than ever with
substantially enhanced discounts on available option packages.
All manufacturer's suggested retail pricing (MSRP) for existing value
packages are now well below $1,000. Prices range from $480 for the CE model
to $935 for the "S" model. These value packages offer popular amenities, such
as air conditioning, power windows and door locks, digital clock and AM/FM ETR
with cassette player, in a variety of combinations.
Corolla prices begin as low as $12,568 for a CE model with a five-speed
manual transmission and $12,983 when equipped with a three-speed automatic.
The sporty "S" model carries a base price ranging from $12,793 for a
five-speed manual to $13,608 with a four-speed electronically controlled
transmission. The premium grade Corolla LE begins at $13,383 with a
five-speed manual and $14,198 with the four-speed automatic.
Corolla is Toyota's second-best selling car, behind Camry. It is powered
by a four-cylinder, 1.8-liter, 16-valve, DOHC, all-aluminum engine with
Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) technology. This extremely
lightweight, compact, and high performance engine achieves excellent fuel
economy and low emissions.
Corollas equipped with the five-speed manual transmission deliver a
city/highway EPA mileage estimate of 32/41 mpg. CE models with the
three-speed automatic transmission achieve a mileage estimate of 29/33 mpg and
models with the four-speed automatic transmission carry a mileage estimate of
30/39 mpg. The Corolla is clean enough to be certified as a low emission
vehicle (LEV) by the EPA.
