Jeep(R) Launches All-New 2002 Liberty Advertising
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 3 The Jeep(R) brand today
introduces a new advertising campaign to launch the all-new 2002 Jeep Liberty
that goes on sale this spring. The advertising campaign reinforces the
brand's legendary four-wheel drive leadership, while highlighting the duality
of the Jeep brand's newest sport-utility vehicle through the contrast of
nature and city.
"The all-new Jeep Liberty stands apart in the market because it combines
the legendary Jeep capability that our customers expect in a Jeep vehicle with
superior on-road refinement to broaden our buyer base even further," said Tom
Marinelli, Vice President, Chrysler/Jeep(R) Division Global Brand Center,
DaimlerChrysler Corporation. "The advertising communicates the core values
and strengths of the Jeep brand, much like a picture says a thousand words --
in a credible, adventurous, unique and attention-grabbing manner."
Building on the brand's tag line "Jeep - There's Only One," six, 30-second
television advertisements and 11 print executions position Liberty as "The
Next Great Jeep Idea."
These creative executions focus on Liberty's capability, contemporary
design, innovative features, packaging, quality, safety and value. Jeep
Liberty advertising will continue the award-winning Jeep tradition of using
attitude and humor to convey key product messages.
The television campaign breaks nationally the week of June 18 on programs
such as NBA on NBC, NHL on ABC as well as cable programs such as Outdoor Life.
Print advertising will appear in July issues of lifestyle publications such as
National Geographic, Adventure, Sports Illustrated, Oprah, Latina and Men's
Journal. Specific creative for newsprint will appear in New York Times, Wall
Street Journal and USA Today.
A lead spot titled "There's Only One" will be shown globally, tying this
all-new vehicle -- marketed as Jeep Liberty in North America and Jeep Cherokee
elsewhere -- to the Jeep brand and leading into the national marketing launch.
The Jeep brand theme line is incorporated into this spot featuring simple
black and white film. Lines like "There's only one Amazon" and "There's only
one jungle" are voiced over a scene of a native of the Amazon and a large
city, respectively. The spot ends with the Jeep Liberty driving into frame as
"The next great Jeep idea" is voiced over. Jeep Liberty inherits its
ancestor's core values, but like any new generation, will set its own path. A
60-second version of "Only One" will appear in movie theaters across the
country this summer.
"Jeep Liberty is a vehicle that our customers will aspire to own," said
Jerry Wayman, Director - Jeep Global Brand Communications. "Our
communications throughout the world will showcase Liberty's contemporary
design, its innovative features and unique ability to deliver exceptional on-
road ride, handling and refinement, along with the off-road capability
expected in a Jeep branded product."
Another spot, "Natural Attractions," featuring the Jeep Liberty Limited
Edition, demonstrates that when Liberty appears, extraordinary things happen.
The spot opens with a Liberty driving down a city street near the park.
Suddenly, strange things begin to happen. A tree along the street begins
sliding along the sidewalk and positions itself alongside the Jeep Liberty.
Eventually the urban city scene has been transformed into a beautiful nature
setting all around the Liberty, exemplifying that with Jeep Liberty, nature
comes to the city.
Magazine print launches with a "Natural Attractions" concept four-page
insert focusing on the innovative and thoughtful features found on Liberty.
In this ad, a tree has already broken free and moved next to the Liberty. The
headline reads, "Even nature can't contain its excitement," followed by "Our
engineers can't contain their excitement either" on the back page of the
insert.
The 2002 Jeep Liberty joins an already formidable Jeep lineup as the
newest member of the legendary brand that defined sport-utility vehicles
during its 60-year history. This new Jeep was created to expand the breadth
of the Jeep lineup and broaden the brand's global appeal. Not only for
traditional Jeep buyers, Liberty is also for a new generation of SUV buyers
who value on-road refinement and ruggedness.
"The Jeep brand has always been known for its outstanding capability and
ruggedness with vehicles such as Wrangler," said Marinelli. "Grand Cherokee
melded this legendary reputation with luxury, and now the next great Jeep
idea, Liberty, expands the depth and breadth of the Jeep brand even further."
