NOTES OF INTEREST:  The Gateway ARCA 150 will be the second appearance
of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Gateway Int’l Raceway. Winder, Georgia
veteran Mark Gibson won the inaugural RE/MAX Series race at Gateway back
on Sept 14, 1997 with a thrilling last-lap pass on Tim Steele to notch
his career-first RE/MAX Series victory. This year’s Gateway ARCA 150
entry list includes former champions’ Steele and Frank Kimmel as well as
defending race winner Gibson. In addition, Jason Jarrett, son of ’99
Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett, has filed an entry as has Winston
Cup/Busch Series veteran Ed Berrier. Berrier was leading the inaugural
ARCA RE/MAX race at Gateway near the end of the event until a fuel
pick-up problem forced an unscheduled pit stop relegating the
Winston-Salem, NC veteran to 5th in the final running order. “This place
owes me one,” said Berrier, “and I plan to collect this Saturday.” Other
notable entrants include second-generation drivers’ Todd Bowsher (son of
3-time ARCA RE/MAX champ Jack Bowsher); Billy Venturini (son of 2-time
ARCA RE/MAX champ Bill Venturini); and former NASCAR Goody’s Dash
champion Mike Swaim, Jr (son of Goody’s Dash veteran Mike Swaim, Sr) as
well as NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series veteran Rick Carelli who finished
4th in his inaugural ARCA RE/MAX Series start at Nashville Superspeedway
back in April. ARCA RE/MAX veterans entered include Pennsylvania
drivers’ Andy Belmont and Norm Benning; Centralia, IL’s Joe Cooksey;
Soddy Daisy TN’s Ron Cox; Mesquite, Texas driver Chuck Weber and Laurel,
Mississippi driver Robert Burroughs.
