Free Vehicle VIN Etching Offered in Delaware
County; Vehicle Identification Numbers Etched Onto Vehicle
Windows as a Means of Theft Prevention
SPRINGFIELD, Pa., May 2 The Pa. Auto Theft Prevention
Authority will co-sponsor a free VIN etching event, held by the Delaware
County District Attorney's Office, on Saturday, May 5, 2001, from 9 a.m. until
12 p.m. Open to the public, the event will be held at the Springfield Mall,
Route 320 & Baltimore Pike, Springfield, Pa.
VIN etching is a proven theft deterrent, where the Vehicle's
Identification Number (VIN) is etched on to all the vehicle windows. Would-be
thieves resist stealing a vehicle that is VIN etched because that vehicle is
more easily identified and, if stolen, all glass must be replaced in order to
remove traces of the VIN.
This is a free service provided by the Pa. Auto Theft Prevention
Authority. The Authority's staff, local and state police officers, and
volunteers from local insurance companies will etch vehicles (weather
permitting) on a first-come, first-served basis. The Authority encourages
vehicle owners to spend some time at the mall on Saturday to take this step to
help protect their vehicles.
