April 2001 Auto Sales Reports

Acura Sets New April Sales Record...(Acura) Acura recorded a new best-ever April with sales up 6.3 percent to 12,815 on the strength of TL and MDX sales. TL sales rose 2.9% to a new April record of 5,997. Year-to-date sales of the 3.2 TL, the best-selling import luxury sedan in the U.S., are up 6.5 percent over the previous year, while demand for the MDX continues at a sellout pace with sales of 14,422 through April. Year-to-date Acura sales of 54,865 are up 27.8 percent over last year as customers continue to respond to Acura's growing stable of new vehicles.

BMW Sales Continue At Record Levels; April Sales Increase 30 Percent and Year-to-Date Sales Jump 15 Percent...(BMWNA) BMW of North America, LLC continued to set sales records, posting its second-best month in the U.S., with 20,012 vehicles reported over 15,337 in April 2000, an increase of 30 percent. April sales boosted BMW's year-to-date total to 66,776, an increase of 15 percent, compared to 58,126 vehicles sold in the same period a year ago. This marks the 31st consecutive month that BMW has surpassed its own sales records.

Daewoo's April Sales Above Industry Average...(Daewoo) "Daewoo's April retail sales of 5011 units enabled the company to increase its market share by 0.1 percent, beating industry average," stated D.J. Lee, President and CEO of Daewoo Motor America. Lee went on to say, "Even with the difficulties we have experienced in these first few months, our dealers and customers are confident in our products and the continued growth of the company."

Infiniti Reports April Sales...(Infiniti) Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) reported total April sales of 4,622 units. Infiniti Division's calendar year-to-date sales added up to 23,888 units.

Isuzu Retail SUV Sales Up Fifty Percent (MTD)...(American Isuzu) American Isuzu Motors Inc. posted total April 2001 SUV retail sales up a remarkable 50 percent compared to 2000 month-end totals. The Isuzu VehiCROSS scored the highest increase, up 128 percent (MTD).

Kia Strong Sales Continue; April Sales Up 29 Percent Versus April 2000...(Kia) In the face of an industry slowdown, Kia continued to record strong sales increases in April. Its 16,060 vehicle sales total for the month outpaced last April's total by 29 percent. Kia's year-to-date sales of 60,397 vehicles are up 35 percent versus the first quarter of last year.

Land Rover Discovery Sets April Sales Record...(Land Rover) Customer response has been positive to a variety of marketing programs for the Land Rover Discovery. The British-built SUV posted a 9.8-percent sales increase for April 2001 -- its best-ever April U.S. sales result -- with 1,751 units sold as compared to 1,594 in April 2000. Land Rover's overall April U.S. results were up slightly over the same period last year: 2,065 units versus 2,059 units -- a 0.3-percent increase.

Mazda Sales Climb For Eighth Straight Month...(Mazda) For the eighth consecutive month, Mazda has posted a sales increase, with the automaker reporting a nearly three percent increase in sales for the month of April. The 2.9 percent increase follows a strong first quarter of the 2001 that saw Mazda sales in the United States finish the quarter in impressive fashion, surging 23 percent ahead of last year's pace.

Mitsubishi Motors Reports Best April in History; Sales Growth of 8.9 Percent Over April 2000; Up 5.4 Percent for the Year...(Mitsubishi) Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA) reported its best April in company history with vehicle sales of 26,601 units, an 8.9 percent increase over April 2000, pushing the company's 2001 year-to-date sales up 5.4 percent higher than the same period last year.

Mercedes-Benz USA Records Sales of 16,546 for April 2001 Second-Best April for MBUSA...(Mercedes-Benz USA) Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported sales of 16,546 new vehicles during the month of April -- the second-best April sales volume ever by MBUSA -- and an eight percent decrease over last year's sales record of 17,889. Year-to-date sales are down three percent (63,619 versus the 65,677 vehicles sold during the same period last year).

Nissan Division Reports April Sales Figures; Sentra Continues to Lead Car Sales...(Nissan) The Nissan Division posted sales of 46,526 units versus 54,773 units reported a year ago. Sentra sales remained strong with total sales of 7,679 units, a 20 percent increase over last year. Combined U.S. sales for Nissan and Infiniti Divisions totaled 51,148, a 16.3 percent decrease versus year-ago levels. Calendar year-to-date sales for Nissan Division are 200,842 units.

Porsche Cars North America Reports April Sales; U.S. Sales Up 15 Percent; PCNA Has Best Jan.-April in its History...(PCNA) Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) announced U.S. April sales. Retail sales for the month totaled 2388 cars, an increase of 15 percent over the same period last year. Year-to-date sales are up by eight percent. In addition, PCNA has sold more Porsches (including Canada sales) in the first four months of 2001 than in any Jan.-April period in its history.

Subaru Posts Best April Total Sales Since 1986; Total Sales up 12 Percent from 2000, Best Total Impreza Sales Since 1994...(Subaru) Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) announced its sales figures for the month of April, recording a sales total of 14,163 units, an increase of 12 percent from 2000 totals for the same period. This represents the best total April sales for Subaru of America, Inc. since 1986.

Suzuki Posts Sales Gain in April...(American Suzuki) American Suzuki Motor Corporation April sales totaled 5,706 vehicles, increasing 18 percent in overall sales compared to the same month one year ago.

Volvo Reports Strong Start for Second Quarter...(Volvo) Following the second best March ever, Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. posts another strong sales month with April figures increasing five percent over last year.
