Lexus Passenger Car Sales Continue to Break Records
TORRANCE, Calif., May 1 Today Lexus reported April
passenger car sales of 12,162 units, marking a best-ever April and a
78.5 percent increase from the same period last year. Year-to-date passenger
car sales of 43,236 represents a 63.1 percent increase from 2000.
The flagship LS 430 premium luxury sedan posted sales of 2,744,
200.9 percent ahead of last year. For calendar year 2001, the LS 430, with
sales of 11,596, remains the most popular sedan in the prestige luxury sedan
segment, outselling the Mercedes S-Class, Jaguar XJ8 and BMW 7-Series.
The SC 430 hardtop convertible remained in high demand posting sales of
1,671 with a low two-day supply. The IS 300 entry-level sport sedan continued
its great performance with sales of 2,506. The ES 300 entry-luxury sedan,
with the addition of the limited Coach Edition, had a strong month with 3,299
units sold, down a slight 3.5 percent from April 2000. The GS
high-performance sport sedan series posted sales of 1,941.
The RX 300 mid-size luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) had April sales of
5,929 units, while the LX 470 premium luxury SUV posted sales of 713.
"It's exciting to see our passenger car sales doing so well," commented
Denny Clements, Lexus group vice president and general manager. "March and
April marked the two best car sales months in Lexus' history with 13,285 and
12,162, respectively. These incredible numbers are thanks to Lexus'
reputation for customer satisfaction and great new products like the SC 430,
LS 430 and IS 300."
Lexus total vehicle sales in April were 18,804, up 19.3 percent from last
April, while calendar year-to-date sales of 70,344 represents a 16.2 percent
increase from 2000.
