Mitsubishi Motors Reports Best April in History

    CYPRESS, Calif., May 1 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America,
Inc. (MMSA) today reported its best April in company history with vehicle
sales of 26,601 units, an 8.9 percent increase over April 2000, pushing the
company's 2001 year-to-date sales up 5.4 percent higher than the same period
last year.

    "Our vehicle sales continue growing in spite of the continued soft-market
conditions," said MMSA Executive Vice President and COO Pierre Gagnon.  "The
strength in sales of our current models will only be enhanced by the
introduction of new vehicles like the Mitsubishi Lancer compact sedan unveiled
in New York last month."

    Some figures of note for MMSA's record-breaking April 2001 sales:

    -- April 2001 sales of 26,601 vehicles represents an 8.9 percent increase
       over April 2000 sales of 24,423 vehicles
    -- 2001 year-to-date sales of 100,012 vehicles represents a 5.4 percent
       increase over April 2000 year-to-date sales of 94,853 vehicles
    -- Galant had its best April ever with 8,506 units sold, up 48.1 percent
       over April 2000
    -- Montero had its best April ever with 1,870 units sold, up 59 percent
       over April 2000, marking the 15th consecutive month of monthly
       year-over-year sales increases for Montero
    -- Eclipse Spyder had its best April ever with 1,500 units sold, up
       14.1 percent over April 2000, marking the 11th consecutive month of
       monthly year-over-year sales increases for Eclipse Spyder
    -- Diamante had its best April ever with 1,444 units sold, up
       118.8 percent over April 2000
