Shelby Series 1 and Cobra Daytona Coupe Land Starring Role In Summer Action Thriller 'Rollerball'

Legendary Automaker and Racing Legend Carroll Shelby
                        Makes Cameo Appearance in Film

LOS ANGELES, May 1 The high performance Shelby Series 1
sports car and Carroll Shelby's own world famous Cobra Daytona Coupe, will
make their movie debuts this summer in MGM's action thriller "Rollerball."
Directed by John McTiernan, the film stars Chris Klein ("American Pie,"
"Election") as Jonathon Cross, a Rollerball sports hero who drives the two
famous high-performance sports cars in the film.
Automaker and racing legend Carroll Shelby visited the set when the
company filmed some of the auto sequences in the Quebec town of St. Jean sur
Richelieu, near Montreal. Shelby served as a consultant during filming
sequences with the Daytona Coupe and Series 1 models. While on set, McTiernan
suggested a cameo role for Shelby, who accepted and made a brief appearance in
the movie.
Shelby's cars will have more expansive roles, though. Two silver Shelby
Series 1s were loaned to the production company, to be used exclusively by the
film's star Chris Klein in a variety of driving and action scenes. One of the
Series 1 models was stripped down to its bare essentials as it was cast for a
memorable, but explosive end during filming.
The continuation version of Shelby's famous Cobra Daytona Coupe is a
bonafide racecar, and was flown to the filming location near Montreal
following its most recent race in England. The original six Daytona Coupes
were built by Shelby American in the mid-Sixties and went on to become the
first and only American-built cars to win the World Manufacturer's
Championship during the 1965 season.
"Because the movie is set in the near future, we wanted vehicles that
looked familiar, but yet ahead of their time, from both a styling and
performance standpoint," says Gino Lucci, Rollerball's automotive coordinator.
"The Series 1 and Daytona Coupe came through with flying colors, on both
counts."
Located adjacent to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Shelby American
manufactures the legendary Shelby Cobra and the new Series 1, as well as being
involved in special design and engineering projects for automotive
manufacturers. For more information, call 702/643-3000 or visit the company's

John McTiernan's "Rollerball" takes place in the not too distant future,
and the future is fierce. A notorious renegade sport, Rollerball packs arenas
all over the world. A global viewership bets and roots for star players
Jonathon Cross (Chris Klein), Marcus Ridley (LL Cool J) and their beautiful
teammate Aurora (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) who skate and motorcycle past
opponents to score. Despite the danger of the game, the real threat lies in
team owner Petrovich (Jean Reno) who sacrifices anything and anyone to
maximize ratings, which are worth more to him then the final score. In a
heroic move Jonathon and his teammates attempt to expose the corruption and
treachery -- a risky play and the penalty is lethal.
"Rollerball" is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures release in association with
Mosaic Media Group. An Atlas Entertainment and Bear Claw Production, the film
is directed by John McTiernan and stars Chris Klein, Jean Reno, LL Cool J and
Rebecca Romjin-Stamos. "Rollerball" is produced by Charles Roven, Beau St.
Clair and John McTiernan. Executive producer is Michael Tadross. The
screenplay is by Larry Ferguson and John Pogue, based on the short story and
screenplay by William Harrison.
