HINES VICTORIOUS IN "BRANSON/LARSON" CLASSIC AT ELDORA

J.J. Yeley of Phoenix, Ariz. claimed the Stoops Freightliner "Border Wars VII" championship with a victory and second-place finish in last weekend's two races at Attica and Rossburg, Ohio respectively.

Yeley took advantage of Jay Drake's slip over the upper bank on the 28th lap of Friday night's race to win the 30-lapper at Attica Raceway Park in his ABC Sand & Rock/GMS Snyder Twister. He led the final three laps to beat Dickie Gaines, Drake, Tony Elliott and Dave Darland to the checkered flag.

Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. led all 30 laps of Saturday night's "Don Branson/Jud Larson Classic" at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio in his Hannig Construction Jones/J & J to beat Yeley, Darland, Drake and Brian Tyler. Yeley ended up with an 11-point cushion over Darland in the final "Border Wars VII" standings as Drake finished third.

Darland, however, emerged as the new Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car Series point leader by 11 over Drake and 17 over Yeley going into a May 13 race at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

Turbines, Inc. fast qualifiers in the two weekend races were Darland and Yeley. Seven flips interrupted the competition, but there were no serious injuries.
