UWNCA CEO, Norm Taylor and UWNCA President Gwendolyn Boyd Join Area Safety
Partners to Kick-Off Boost America!, a Nation-Wide Child Booster Seat
                      Awareness and Distribution Program

WASHINGTON, April 30 Highway crashes are the #1 killer of
children and new research confirms that most of the national capital area's
at-risk kids (ages 4-8) are not safely secured in automobiles.
Today, along with Ford and other safety partners, United Way of the
National Capital Area (UWNCA) began distributing one thousand free booster
seats to low-income families to kick-off Boost America! This is the first of
several local events where UWNCA will distribute the seats throughout the
region.
"We are pleased to be partnering with Ford and the other safety partners
involved with Boost America!," said Norman O. Taylor, UWNCA CEO. "We are
committed to cultivating collaborative partnerships that help the United Way
make a difference in people's lives and our community. Collaboration like
this with the private sector and community is one of the building bricks of
our United Way -- we look forward to more of it."
Boost America! is a $30 million commitment this year -- to shift attitudes
and behavior in favor of better protection for child passengers through
increased booster seats to low-income families, through their collaboration
with local United Ways across the country.
UWNCA is continuing to pre-screen families who may qualify for these
seats. For more information, call 202-488-2015.
The United Way of the National Capital Area, encompassing both the private
sector and the Combined Federal Campaign, is the principle fundraiser directly
supporting thousands of health and human service agencies dedicated to
strengthening the quality of life in the Washington metropolitan area. More
